An extensive update to a classic Mid Century Modern home in Winnipeg, Canada. The addition included an attached garage & workshop, foyer and sunroom. The existing home was gutted and replanned to meet todays functional requirements.
We clad the new addition in a vertical tambour siding to tie into the home’s existing board & batten siding. The black colour was selected so that the addition would take a backseat to the original home and it’s dramatic design.
The fabulous embordered grasscloth wallpaper is complimented by the clerestory skylight and the Tom Dixon Melt pendant light.
The interior was replanned to make better use of the space, we add a suspended gas fireplace, and restore the original curved fir wood ceiling.
The existing kitchen was in an awkward position, facing away from the living and dining areas. We changed the kitchen orientation to make it part of the entertainment area of the home and added a walk-thru pantry.
An expanded primary bedroom, large screened room and garage workshop were added to the rear of the house.
The new roof of the garage and workshop are being lowered into place.
The stunning original architecture of this Mid Century Modern home was maintained and restored. Great thought was given to the design of the new addition to compliment the existing aesthetic.
